What Pathfinder measures
Four instruments, one profile. Each is scored independently and then read against the others, because a strong interest without the matching aptitude is a hobby, not a career.
Interest inventory
Sixty forced-choice items scored across six occupational themes, then ranked into a three-letter code. Measures pull, not competence.
Aptitude battery
Verbal, numerical, spatial and abstract reasoning. Fixed battery, resumable, and scored against a South African career-cluster library.
Work values
Ranks eight motivators — autonomy, security, income, service, recognition, variety, structure and status — into a working hierarchy.
Working style
Pace, tolerance for ambiguity, risk posture and preferred collaboration mode. Read against the interest code to separate fit from friction.
How it
works
One sitting, one report, one conversation. No preparation and nothing to revise beforehand.
Assess
One sitting, on any device. No preparation, no revision, no trick questions. Progress saves as you go.
Analyse
Scores are normed, cross-read and matched against 240 occupations with their entry requirements and study routes.
Act
Your ranked shortlist, the subject stream behind it, and a dated 90-day plan you can start on immediately.
Inside the report
Twenty-two pages, written to be read by the person who took it. Scroll to fill the spread.
Investigative and Artistic scores are both high while Conventional is low. Expect boredom in tightly proceduralised roles, however well they pay.
Common questions
How long does it take?
A thorough assessment, done in one sitting. The aptitude sections are timed; the interest and values sections are not. Progress saves automatically if you are interrupted, so you can pick it up where you left off.
Is it norm-referenced for South Africa?
Yes. Aptitude scores are reported against a South African normative sample, updated annually. Interest and values scales are reported as within-person rankings rather than against a norm group.
Can I fail it?
No. Aptitude sections have right answers, but the report describes relative strengths rather than a pass mark. The instrument is diagnostic, not a gate.
Who sees my results?
You do, first. Nothing is shared with a school or an employer without your written consent, and group reports are aggregated. Data is held in line with POPIA and deleted on request.
What do I get at the end?
A ranked career-cluster shortlist with match distances, a CAPS subject stream, and a dated 90-day plan — all in your dashboard the moment you finish.
Does it work for career changers?
It is one of the most common uses. The occupation matching accounts for prior experience and the qualification routes available to adults, including part-time and RPL pathways.
